THE MUGOVENLIANS:

Little is known about the people now known as the Mugovenlians. Their history remains largely lost to time, with our only glimpse into their existence coming from a single stone engraving. This engraving was discovered on a small slab of alabaster found deep within the market of Ptolemais Felipe. It was acquired by a traveling merchant whose identity has since faded into obscurity. Upon bringing the slab to the University of Tortuga Town, hoping for a lucrative sale, the merchant discovered its true worth to be far beyond mere monetary value. Though the slab was in a state of severe disrepair, the efforts of Dr. Shelly Archelon managed to reconstruct a few of its engravings. Originating from the Phajama culture, such stone carvings are not uncommon, typically found adorning the large boulders that scatter their homeland, The Frong. This engraving seems to have been taken out from an even larger stone relief, and the reasons for such action are lost and can only be speculated on.

The slab appeared to narrate a tale from the perspective of the Phajama. It suggested that the Mugovenlians were a migrating group originating from the distant west. Their journey led them to the Frong, where, upon encountering the indigenous Phajama, tensions swiftly escalated into open conflict.

The slab recounts accounts of minor skirmishes, noting, “The Mugovenlians constructed walls using their warriors, yet none could withstand the relentless onslaught of our cataphracts.”

The slab’s text chronicles numerous skirmishes, yet significant portions remain indecipherable due to damage. A substantial segment depicts a pivotal final battle, wherein the Phajama executed a strategic feigned retreat followed by a devastating cataphract charge, resulting in numerous casualties by the lance and trampling under hoof. However, interpretation and assumptions are necessary due to the erosion of the carved text over time.

Regrettably, the original slab was utterly destroyed during a devastating raid by the infamous necromancer, Phillip, and his Boney Boys on Tortuga Town. Although he was eventually repelled, it’s worth noting that his undead forces appeared to target the slab specifically, leading many to speculate that Phillip harbored a mysterious motive for wanting to erase the memory of the Mugovenlians from history. Despite his efforts, numerous recreations of the carvings and translations of the slab’s text are still preserved in the University of Tortuga Town archives. Many scholars and researchers hold out hope for further discoveries in the vast steppe that borders the Frong, eager to unravel the enigmatic mystery of the Mugovenlians.
